My first thought was that I hoped she'd have the county kick in money for the inevitable ACLU lawsuit, surely one of the two most powerful politicians in the county would have done a little research before spouting off on this. But today's article says the she declares herself a journalist (former TV anchorperson, so I guess she doesn't know anything about research, and only needs to read a script) and not a lawyer, so why should she have any need to know about the Supreme Court. She also pulled out the protect the children, even if it means shredding the Constitution canard.

The newspaper bloggers have the usual nice range of opinions. I particularly enjoy the ones who tell the patrons they don't need the internet at the library, they can access it at home, and it's not mentioned in the Constitution! Hello, not everyone can afford the $10 a month for internet access. Mrs. Ha's job hunt has given me a lot of insight into how necessary the internet has become, many of her job applications and tests had to be done online. God forbid you want a job at Planned Parenthood and your library uses a web filter written by religious conservatives.

I'd like to live in Maggie Brook's county. I thought we lived in the same county (I recall seeing her name on the ballot), but I can think of a lot more pressing issues than an occasional pervert using a privacy screen to view porn, PORN! How about a very high tax rate, declining manufacturing base, a culture of poverty and violence in the city, a concentration of poverty in the city, a lack of well paying jobs for the high school educated, needless duplication of services, poor mass transit, well, I could go on.

Speaking of declining manufacturing bases, the business section of our local paper also talks about my $corp targeting $big_yellow's marketing niche, using $japanese_partner's expertise, recently aquired low end printers, and even $lesser_sibling_of_product. Local rep of $big_yellow talks like he welcomes the competition. The article also mentions $big_yellow's competitor to $product, which is so well thought of that $german_manufacturer sold the whole division to $big_yellow a few years ago.

I'm still waiting for former executives of $big_yellow to do the honorable thing, apologize to the tens of thousands of laid off employees for betting on film, betting against digital technology, and then committing seppeku. I think I shall be waiting a long time.

On a lighter note, we're going to a nice Greek restaurant tonight for my birthday, assuming my parents can get into the city (about six inches of snow over night, I started my day shoveling).

For today's Husiback, updates on Mrs. Ha's employment. The restaurant she works at is one of a pair owned by the family, the other is a local landmark in a converted dining car. Apparently the patriarch of this family is notorious for dipping in the till, and Mrs. Ha noticed him eying it often. I wonder just how many hostesses they go through for register problems.
