Liberal Democrat and Doctor Who parellels

I was reminded today of a Doctor Who episode, where the good Doctor tells the Prime Minister, "I can destroy you with just six words.", and on doing so whispers in the ear of an associate "Don't you think she look tired?"

Today, the deputy leader of the Liberal party said that Ming Campells leadership was "under discussion". I'm not sure whether this is four words better or whether the whole sentence is needed.

He was an excellent leader.

Can understand why they got rid of Ming. 11% rating for the Lib Dems in the polls as the Tories are nicking their voters on green issues and civil liberties. Ming would make a brilliant foreign secretary but you need someone less geriatric as leader.

..about Charles Kennedy, and a life at the Westminster sharp end is not a good way to avoid alcohol; I think most of the dealing and backstabbing is done in the bars.

Ming is knowledgable, and his age wouldn't matter if he had a real physical presence. Reagan showed that age isn't a handicap, but (when well) he both looked and acted like a leader. You need someone with personal charisma as leader, and Ming lacked that. The Tories made the same mistake (twice): William Hague from the Tories, who is brilliant and witty, but doesn't have that undefinable buzz about him. As for Iain Duncan Smith....

Charisma and leadership are not age related.

Fidel Castro in his 70s had more charisma than any politician I can think of for example.

leadership and age by Merekat (2.00 / 0) #5 Tue Oct 16, 2007 at 02:38:01 AM EST
Practically speaking, if you have doubts that your chosen leader will make it to the next election (2009 is a date I have heard) sound in mind and body, then leadership and age are related, regardless of the individual's actual talents.

What a waste of time and energy. Almost singlehandedly responsible for the victory of "Bliarian Authoritarianism" aka Nu Labour.
If I didn't know better I'd think the powers that be planned it that way.
Anyway never mind the Lib Dems, when is that smug Scotch git going to give us our referendum?

Not that the Lib Dems have any relevence anyway. Even under a decent leader like Kennedy (pre-alcohol revelations) they couldn't get anywhere.
